#170: Sky

The sky looks different out there.
Each sunset and passing rainstorm provides a textile of lights and darks, colors and shapes I sometimes forget exist in nature. To feel so often in awe, those evenings under the skies of New Mexico were rich with gratefulness and inspiration.

WOW! I am gobsmacked – not just at the stunning views, but also at how well you’ve captured them – I can never seem to get photos of the sky that ever do it justice. Wonderful.
Doesn’t get much better than New Mexico in September, so it’s most fortunate to have a biz trip! I just stumbled on your blog last night while researching a 2nd Phase Navajo belt, and I left my work to wander your blog-world for a while. Was a very enjoyable wander…love your enthusiasm and your very good pics….but what kept me here was your recognition of the past lives of old objects and places, particularly the Navajo silver (duhhh!) Though I think you read far too much into the design elements, I admire -and share- your passion for old silver.
One thing though…I don’t see Cowboy boots. Have I missed them? You must be an old boot person, no?
Thank you so much. My father has a beautiful collection of boots from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Boots are not particular my thing, save as pieces of folk art. Best wishes!

I just found a very old (late 1800s/early 1900s) Navajo belt at an estate sale in Michigan. It’s a big (over 24 ounces troy) ingot piece with a big buckle, sort of between 1st and 2nd phase, but old, old, old. Was a very exciting day. 😉

My favorite is the first shot. The foreground truck looks more vintage than it is; the two-tone paint job suggests an earlier era.
