#74: Summer Soundtrack

June 21, 2009

Happy solstice, it is officially summer. And happy Fathers Day to all the dear old dads out there.

On repeat this summer, for starters, The Flying Burrito Brothers. For me it’s usually the Burritos relentlessly through the summer, and Gram’s International Submarine Band or solo jams through the fall. This video, while not necessarily embodying the quintessence of Gram’s country sound, is pretty irresistible… (Also there seems to be very little by way of good live recording of the band.)

Recommended listening: Hot Burritos!  The Flying Burrito Brothers Anthology 1969-1972

Come some hot summer evenings don’t be too surprised to find me relaxing out back just awaitin’ for the stars to come out, with the country twang of the Burrito Brothers humming through the speakers. I should buy a rocking chair.
