#80: Happy Birthday, Old Boy

July 26, 2009

From my sacred vintage tee shirt drawer comes one of my most sentimental favorites, the Happy Birthday Mick tee from the culminating concert of the 1978 Some Girls world tour.

This concert was part of legendary concert promoter Bill Graham’s “Days on the Green” concert series at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium, and you’ll notice the green logo on the tee shirt. Featuring Eddie Money, Peter Tosh (who Mick later collaborated with on the feel-good number Walk and Don’t Look Back) and Santana. Some ticket!

Size small/34-36. Made by Sneakers of a 50/50 polyester and cotton blend. I’ll admit it, there is a little bit of polyester in my expansive wardrobe, but only a little, where warranted. Make no mistake!

Here’s a less than memorable tour report from the Some Girls tour by NBC news in the summer of ’78. Very funny concert footage of Mick (can you take him seriously wielding that ax?) and an interview from when our boy was just 35 years young.

Happy 66th birthday, Mick. You are loved.

Ha, you weren’t even born in ’78 I’ll bet!

Is he channeling Tuesday Weld in that last shot?
